The unit aims to carry out various types of research in both cardiovascular and metabolic Medicine which include the following:

  • Large observational hospital- based studies which are either cross sectional or longitudinal
  • Randomized controlled trials
  • Implementation science studies
  • Community based interventions
  • Drug Trials
  • National and international collaborative research work

Aims and Objectives

To carry out different types of world class cardiovascular and metabolic research; the results of which will help improve the practice of Cardio-Metabolic Medicine in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.

  1. Dedicated Research office and Staff
  2. Large patient load of hypertension, hypertensive heart disease, hypertensive heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy and few coronary artery disease patients
  3. Large patient load of diabetes mellitus
  4. Fairly large patient load of hypertension associated with dyslipidemia
  5. Fairly large patient load of hypertensive diabetics with obesity
  6. Large patient load of cerebrovascular disease
  7. Facilities for Electrocardiography and 24-Hour Electrocardiography
  8. Facilities for Exercise Stress Test
  9. Facilities for Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
  10. Facilities for Transthoracic, Stress and Transesophageal Echocardiography
  11. Facilities for Carotid and Lower Limb Doppler Studies
  12. Facilities to measure cardiac enzymes and markers like pro BNP
  13. Research Laboratory with capacity to measure blood sugar, lipids, electrolyte, urea and creatinine and uric acid
  14. Central lab with capacity to store samples at -40 degrees
